MOLL INDUSTRIES ANNOUNCES PLANT CLOSURES, BUSINESS FOCUS
Dallas, TX -
Moll Industries, Inc. announced today that it is closing three plant locations by the end of this year and focusing resources in areas of strategic importance and strength for the company. The facilities to be closed are located in Ft. Smith, Arkansas; La Vergne, Tennessee; and New Braunfels, Texas, all of which were primarily involved in manufacturing major home appliances and some consumer products. The announcement includes confirmation that facilities upgrades and enhancements to Moll's successful ventures in Mexico will continue. Mexican operations and Moll's medical molding business are growing and have become the focal segments of Moll's business. Affirming ongoing Mexican expansion and thriving global medical device and components production, the company indicates that it is moving away from disproportionate concentration in the appliance industry and toward a balanced division of business in all core market segments.
"We've made some very tough but extremely well thought-out business decisions," said Jim Rugg, Moll's Chief Financial Officer. He added, "Clearly, we're aligning efforts and assets in support of customers with whom we have strong and mutually profitable relationships. In the past twelve months, we've infused significant capital investments including inserting new presses as well as investing in a multitude of new and highly specialized hires in our core market segments. The plants being closed were mainly supporting Whirlpool Corporation, with whom we were unable to agree upon viable pricing for our services."
Moll's other sites which are unaffected by these developments include a plant in Lexington, North Carolina; the Moll Medical premier devices and components production compound in Seagrove, North Carolina; a medical site in Donegal, Ireland; and two locations in Mexico, one in Empalme, Sonora; and one in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila.
Moll Industries, Inc. has been ranked as one of the top US molders by Plastics News trade publication in 2006, and remains one of the most experienced full-service contract manufacturers of custom injection molded plastic components and assemblies of medical, appliances and consumer products with global locations. The company offers Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing, optimized production, secondary processes, broad applications and total logistics management. These capabilities complement core competencies in multi-shot, insert molding, gas assist molding, post mold decorating and over molding. For more information visit www.mollindustries.com.
